the lights


4つで、ひとつの作品です。
存在そのものは、光です。けれども私たちが存在を見ようとするとき、そのまなざしには、言葉や記憶、経験による「翻訳の霧」がかかっていて、ありのままを見ることはできません。

画面の手前に置かれた黒い遮蔽物やノイズのようなかたちは、奥の風景を遮ると同時に、私たち一人ひとりにかかっている認識のヴェールでもあります。そのヴェールは、人によって形も大きさも違います。身体という質量を持ち、文化や経験のフィルターを通して見ている風景が、最後にクリアな光となって自分に届くまで、その過程を、4つの画面で描きました。

Four panels form a single work.
Existence itself is light. Yet when we try to see existence, our gaze is clouded by a mist of translation — woven from language, memory, and experience ,and we cannot see things as they are.
The black obstructions and noise-like forms placed in the foreground block the landscape behind them. At the same time, they are the veils of perception that each of us wears. These veils differ in shape and size from person to person. Carrying the weight of the body, looking through filters of culture and experience, we watch the landscape until, at last, it reaches us as clear light. These four panels trace that passage.
